The week after my half-marathon in the Royal National Park, I was off to Kurnell for my next preparation race – the Big Coast Run along the cliffs in the Botany Bay NP. Probably one of the most scenic trail courses around Sydney, starting and finishing on Botany Bay at Kurnell, it offers is a nice variety of cliff top and ocean side trails, as you wind your way down the coast and back again battling sand dunes, mud and ankle-deep water along the way.
The week prior the run, I was offered to test some new trail shows for Run For Your Life magazine, and the new Inov Race Ultra 290 did an excellent job along the challenging trail. Together with the new shoes I also tested my desert backpack and complete water supply setup. All worked well, and with a few minor tweaks and changes, I am almost ready for the Ocean Floor Race next year.
It was a great Sunday morning run, and surprisingly, I finished the 30 km in a respectable 3hrs 14min.
Now it’s time for tapering for the big one on Sunday, 2 November. I really look forward to finally go out bush to the Carcoar Running Festival. I am all set and ready – I hired a Wicked campervan and I’ll have the best support ‘crew’ (my lovely wife Uli) with me; and with all race gear good to go, I am sure it will be lots of fun.
Thanks to Uli my fundraising page is now also up and running, so please support my running for restoring sight to needlessly blind people helping The Fred Hollows Foundation.
